Bernanke's predecessor Alan Greenspan has written a book (check it on Amazon) where he makes a case for increased high-skilled immigration. He makes a forceful case that its good for the greater economy (and not just limited to housing sector). And yet, we don't see any action on the Capitol (do we?!).
If Bernanke gives a media statement about the benefits of increased high-skilled immigration to media, it will create a few articles, a few heated discussions. It will peter out after that ( like Bill Gates testimonies to US Congress). Ultimately its the guys sitting in the Capitol and WH who control what becomes the law. And they aren't going to decide on immigration based on what Bernanke states in a brainstorming session.
Here's the complex process - Someone has to write a bill, work on getting sponsors and co-sponsors, network with other Congressmen to support the bill. Get it through the bureacracy of the Sub-committee on Immigration in the Senate, get a filibuster proof majority of 60 senators to get it passed. Same has to be done in the House. Get it out of House immigration sub-committee. Get a majority vote in the House. In doing all this they shouldn't create a reason for Pres. Bush to veto it. In case he does veto it (for any reason) it will go back to Congress and 2/3rd majority is required to override the veto.
If it was so easy to get a bill passed [by getting Mr. Bernanke to support it] lobbying business would've been long dead. Companies wouldn't be spending millions of dollars every year to safeguard their interests.
Point is - getting Bernanke/media support may create a traction for our issue and get it some coverage. I'm not saying the effort is completely useless. It has it's place. But it will not fix the issue by itself. We still need to meet the lawmakers and convince them, we still need to send those letters, make those phone calls, send those faxes and so on. Getting Bernanke/media support will never be an alternative to IV efforts. They will, at best, complement it.
Bernanke gets called often to talk about the economy and that gets Media attention (so even if he says everything should be done to increase demand and if he mentions immigration ..that would help) ..that is commonsense 101. it is definitely worth trying.
ofcourse Ben may not read our letters but hopefully someone in his staff would (Approaching Ben or the realtors has more chance of success than sending mails to VP or to Bush) ...and maybe suggest the same during their brainstorming ..ofcourse all of this is hopes ..and with ifs and buts ..but I dont see lot of other options ..

But it would be disastrous in terms of PR if even this fails. But like you, I would not hold my breath for this but am cautiously optimistic at the same time.
Also, please realize that any changes to the bill will meet absolute resistance from both sides. We will have to wait and see how many amendments are they planning on allowing.....
Ragz to be perfectly honest i know this bill is VERRRRY important to us, but this bill carries Far more problems than relief. Right now there are So many "Ifs" and "Ands" that somehow i dont see it passing or atleast not anytime soon, forget abt passing by memorial day.

kudos to what u accomplished in July 2007, but the reality is we haven't seen any major action after that. I guess its mostly frustration from ppl here, who think that the US housing/EB crisis can be pursued aggressively than expecting for CIR to happen.

Every time someone has increased level of anxiety, that person comes to this forum, vent out on someone else, ask someone else that what have you been doing because I have not received my green card, and then after bickering in few posts, simply vanish in think air like a fart. The name of the game is, let someone else clean up the shit for me while I enjoy my pop-corn watching a movie with my family. But lets not stop blaming someone else for my own inaction for my green card. Demand answers right now because I had a sudden gust of enthusiasm to find out when I well get my green card. I did refered earlier in this forum ,about www.givemeinsurance.com , a desi agent deals with Farmers Insurance in Texas only.
I got mine and my wife insurance with him for $15 a month covering 250K Term Life insurance ( We are on H1 )

The delay caused by the FBI name check has substantial consequences to applicants and their families, as well as to our country and the economy. Examples of how legitimate applicants suffer include:

I believe they might have assigned a visa number to you. Please raise a SR or take infopass and try to find out more.
Well I jumped a little too early :) and opened a SR in July. The following is the response I received:

Here I got it from CIS site. The position must require MS but if you have BS+5 you qualify for it and hence for EB2:
EB-2 Eligibility and Filing
The EB-2 classification includes: aliens who are "members of the professions holding advanced degrees or their equivalent" and aliens "who because of their exceptional ability in the sciences, arts, or business will substantially benefit the national economy, cultural, or educational interests or welfare of the United States."
A petition for a foreign professional holding an advanced degree may be filed when the job requires an advanced degree (beyond the baccalaureate) and the alien possesses such a degree or the equivalent. The petition must include documentation, such as an official academic record showing that the alien has a U.S. advanced degree or a foreign equivalent degree, or an official academic record showing that the alien has a U.S. baccalaureate degree or a foreign equivalent degree and letters from current or former employers showing that the alien has at least 5 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the specialty.
RESUME: To file under EB2, if the position by its code falls under job zone IV for the requirements to be "normal" it needs to require MS + 0 experience, but the applicant may have BS + 5. For zone V the position should require MS at least again, and may require experience. If you were not told the correct bill rate, you can recover that money. Simply ask them in writing to show you the contract since you are on 70/30 basis. The written contracts, oral contracts, emails all stand in the court but how will you prove an oral contract? If you have found an offer that meets your expectations just quit. We all make the same mistakes. We spend our time on working out things where they are not working. Just "quietly" without your employer getting a hint, find a job and quit.

It is easy to get carried away saying that the employer is blood sucker etc. But very clearly, you should know that there can't be these kinds of contracts on H1. Maybe you guys want OP to go to DoL so that both the employer and OP get kicked out of this country (that is good for all of us) due to obvious immigration fraud.
To top it, OP goes on an offensive when people point of the bitter truth to him. This site should not promote illegal behavior, anybody seeking advise on these topics should be severely castigated, because they broke the law too (and they know it, just dont want to admit it). Or maybe we should encourage these people to report to DoL so that all of them can be punished for misusing the laws.

I did notice several blogs on net, but my intentions were more about if any journalist can write article similar to WP on the main page it does get bigger coverage. We could request them to include the IV web addy which will help more people to sign and possibly contribute.
but saw 10 postings about IV in Indian (desi) sites., like www.kcdesi.com, one from Detroit, one on Sulekha and a few other Chinese sites. I guess these are blog posts. If it is useful, I will post each or all of these. Even, some Canadian sites have picked up issues listed in IV home page ( and probalbly spinning them to their advantage)

I have couple friends who moved to Australia 3-4 years back, they love it. they mentioned that they have already applied for citizenship. 3 years back we decided against migrating there because our PD was almost current, we are still waiting. :)

This is my first message after so long time...
USCIS stoped issuing interim EAD before years... We just been to local office this Monday and they said they don't issue it any more..

upgraded to PP on 19th. No news, No LUD so far....Even though, they saif July 2nd is cutoff date. Something went wrong around 6/20. Dont see any approvals after that.

This ia a dangerous clause. So basically, an unlawfull alien residing in US for past 5 years gets change his status to PR, moreover he is not restricted by the per country limit he can go from filing I-485 to get a Visa number allotted to him practically overnight..and not having to wait like folks from India or China ....
I dont think this bills has anything favourable to legal immigrants... It better to apply as the other category ....

I just wanted update this thread with my experience. Could be helpful to people like me who searched many forums frantically. I have 10th year h1b extension valid upto 2010. Instead of going for stamping at US consulate in India, I decided to use advance parole. Most troubling thing about my history was that I had one dwi (Driving While Intoxicated with Alcohol) offense. It is not a deportable offense. However, I was concerned that it would show up at port of entry and they could ask me to go back for consulate processing. I kept all my case related court documents handy. This is very important for anyone travelling with dwi or other serious charges against them.
Officer directed me to the secondary inspection. Another officer there entered my information into the computer and after making gazillion keystrokes, he stamped my advance parole document/I-94 with 1 year validity. I got up from the chair when he called my name, walked upto his counter and took my documents from him. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. NO BIOMETRICS.
Hope this helps others.
