I watched the entire fiinal. Apart from kavya my favorites were Kyle Mou and Tim ruiter. This was Kyle's last chance, but I hope Tim wins next year.
Just thinking aloud : Out of 11 finalist 8 were kids of immigrant parents (7 of them indian). is it just co-incidence ?
I hope after watching this, americans should now have no doubts that imiigrants are here not because they work for less but because they are good at what they do and they are hard working people.

i need big help with my 140 filed in Premium Processing
and i did not get my receipt to file 485
applied it on Jun 20 2007 (this month)
any way i can get some copy of the receipt to file 485?
I thought you just needed your receipt number to file for 485, not the physical receipt.

Premium depends on your age,duration of policy(10/20/30) and place of living if you you do not have any health problems. unless you disclose your age , no one can help you on your rate comparison.

Apply on the date your 6 months are left. Use the couple of months before that to follow up with your employer and Lawyer and get all paperwork done and application packet ready. If lawyer or the employer is slow, then one needs to push them since ultimately you are going to be affected and nobody else.
The onus is on the H1B worker to be diligent and not leave everything to the last few months. DMV is only following the rules. Maybe some of them are not aware of the rules. The issue of not getting license despite H1B approvals, and H4s not getting DL is something one can take up as an issue with media and authorities. But just because the person did not bother to get the H1B extended until the last moment cannot be an excuse for relief when we approach the authorities.
In some situations you would want to delay filing of your H1 extension.

Anybody wont be eligible. Canada has been fine tuning the immigration since 2002.
Now only people who have studied or worked in Canada on work permit are eligible.
family based is greatly restricted unlike US where around 80 is non-skill based.
That may be the unofficial version. Officially you can apply even you haven't worked or studied in Canada if you qualify as a skilled worker with a year of experience. You get extra points for having a job offer from a Canadian employer but not having one does not disqualify you automatically. I'm not talking about getting the GC. I'm just talking about the application process. Some kind of processing is needed even to reject an application and I do not think USCIS is capable of handling the increased traffic that switching to a point based system would result in.

Useful Information. Please let us know if you indeed got the copy of your 140 from USCIS.

FYI majority of Desi companies follow the rules as stipulated by US laws. There definitely are abuses in any law. Do you think all wallstreet firms played by rules in this financial mess.
If there are abuses that should be enforced. No doubt about it.
Please stop generalizing from these incidents. There are good majority of IV folks who work for good consulting companies.
If you don't want IV to be reduced to an organization of couple of hundred members, please stop generalizing. After all that is what anti-immigrants are doing.

Tina, my wife has the exact same issue. Pl advise. She is workng on H1 but getting delayed pay and paystubs and no W2 for 2006 since she dd not have SSN until feb 2007. To be safe, she wants to apply for H4 in Chennai although she still has valid H1. have 2 questions.'
1. can we fix a web appointment thru VFS for H4 visa stamping for her, even though she is on H1 right now and does not have H4 I797? I will add he as my dependent, since I am doing my H1 renewal as well and my case is strong
2. will they ask for her h1 paystubs and W2s if she is applying for H4 in chennai? Hopefully not. she has an expired H4 visa so she cannot re-enter on H4 visa.
3. also is it possible to travel from Atlanta or nearby to chennai without getting transit visa since we might not have time and aretravelling on expired visas. any short routes airlines you know?(singapore does not need transit visas?)even european cities that dont ask for transit visas will be fine.

WithoutGCAmigo, no panic. there are processing dates which you should be worried about after you file EAD / AP etc.
To file it goes per visa bulletin. Hope you are upto date with that.

Great Chance! I am not sure how much of time we will be given. I agree that communication skills are of tantamount importance to the substance that we plan on putting forth. How about folks who have done our presentation earlier? We need statistics/numbers and our presentation material bears that or, we could garner more. I do not believe in short-changing any of the objectives. Priority may change but all provisions are core. As a case study then, we let an individual to present himself. That way the whole presentation is broad-based and goes as planned.
Also, please factor in that this could well turn out to be an interactive session later. (Some may be out to shoot us ;) )With the amount of superlative material already flowing across the forum and the drive within us, we are definitely upto it! Please plan on carrying a slide that lists prominent immigrants who are success stories (Kalpana Chawla !).
Is there a way we could get to see how many of us folks hold an Advanced degree? Any IITians around for the show? Let's conference around and get to the nitty-gritty details, dress code, way of formal addressing, hand-outs et al., and run the rehearsal (s) by QGA.

1) My employer does not want to share the original I-140 either, so i too want to apply via FOIA, do you know what is the cost of applying ?
2) If we apply, will the employer get to know ? does uscis send some notification to the employer that the employee requested a copy of I-140 approval notice?
